gearbox sealant

i have had the gearbox off my optimax to change the impeller and running it in a tank i now have exhaust gas comeing from around the anode, i know what i have or rather not done it should have had some sealant on the mateing surfaces, will ordinary rtv silicone be ok or is it exhaust sealer of some kind? cheers, mark.

You need to seal it off with any kind of silicone sealant. Put some on before you put the gearbox on just on the front of the water pump housing.
