Gearbox oil Recomendations.

I am going to change the gearbox oil on my Brown Band 50hp. Mercury Two stroke circa 1985. Has anyone any recommendations as to what to use. ? ie. Should I use marine stuff or is the auto stuff the same. Cheers. Colin..

The claim is marine oil deals better with water ingress but if you have water in then you have a problem anyway.
I've used automotive gear oil many times without ill effects
Personally apart from the cost i doubt there is much difference

Slight different tack on this. If you can spare ten minutes watching this bloke on you tube, I find his experiments quite interesting. I promise, you do eventually get used to his voice....

I think a lot of commercial hype is given into the marketing of the different types of oil generally. Marine or land I guess the price is a lot to consider.

What's 'Intelligent Molecules', plenty to read on that......
