Gearbox oil change

So there I was... First boat (nice one though) Mariner 60HP EFI and ready to change the gearbox oil ... Big Screw driver ready and the screw so stuck I did not manage to get the oil out...... Now I surely will manage but is I am not keen on these 3 (fill, vent, empty) having to use a flat screwdriver.... Are there any other variations for sale ie ones were you use an allen key or a small spanner ? Also any advise were I can get copper or SS washer incase the ones on it need replacing... Again Thanks

You could try PM turbodiesel on this forum..or contact him through the black dog marine web site to make sure these will fit. I can thoroughly recommend them as I have placed two small orders with him in the past few weeks..and the good arrived the day after ordering them

here is a link to the mariner gear oil change washers etc..but best to check they fit your engine.. the blue washers ..they certainly fit my mariner 25hp

Black Dog Marine boat engines - outboard and inboard diesel and petrol motors installed

Best screwdriver I've found for mine is one of the straight bits that came with my impact driver. Not tapered towards the tip so pretty much an exact fit in the slot & that's the important bit. Similar to proper gunsmith's turnscrews where damaging an engraved screwhead is NOT an option!

I don't even try a normal screwdriver on them-I go straight in with the impact driver. Just use as little force as possible to get the screw to crack.

I've got a large flat head screw driver with square shaft that I use on these. If I can't do it by hand I put a 9mm spanner on the square shaft and this always gives me enough extra leverage to crack the screws.
