Fuel connector for Yamaha P165 (1971/2) - same as Suzuki 11mm?

Hi.

Any Suzuki outboard owners here with the 11mm fuel connector? If so, could you check if the dimensions shown in my pic are the same as yours, please?

I am looking for the hose-end fuel connector (female) to suit an old Yam P165 outboard. I understand the P165 is essentially identical to the Mariner 8A which came after it. I have attached a photo of the male connector on the engine with dimensions, but I'm struggling to find the matching hose end fitting here in the UK.

Unless other makes also fit....

For example, the Quicksilver F197787Q3 is stated as being for 'Suzuki' and the Suk's engine fuel spigot looks identical to the Yam's and is also 11mm. Does it fit, tho'?

I've since found the original part number of the Yam hose connector - it's 644-24305-50. The good news is that they are still available from a few foreign sources, the bad news being they are typically asking between £65 and £100 for them plus postage...!

Can anyone help, please? Thanks.

I can check, but not until either later today or tomorrow.

That would be great, Dave - thank you :-)

No rush at all. It has to be the smaller 11mm diameter connector, tho'.

Cheers.

This may or may not help you, but it does have part numbers to search for.

I found where I stole the chart from, contact this seller or at least read his explanation on the various connectors, maybe post your fitting to him for matching to be sure of getting the correct item. The safest way is always to buy in pairs (male & female) that way you know it will work out.

Hmm, that's really interesting, Ol'man - thank you.

Do you have sight of the upper part of that doc which includes the rest of the Mercuries, and is Yamaha included anywhere?

It's very interesting that the Suzuki and Tohatsu connectors seem identical.

I'll get in touch with that eBayer - thank you so much for this. :-)

If you click through on the link I gave to ebay then scroll down the page to the lengthy explanation the seller gives for the various fittings, you will see the full chart as thats where I borrowed it from originally.

Oops - sorry!

I've emailed that seller and he's going to check the dimensions I have given him to confirm.

On that larger list, no Yam or Mercury fitting is shown as being the same as the 11mm Suzuki, but then no 11mm fitting is showing at all For Yam or Merc... I think it's just too old a model, and quite possibly only had the 11mm spigot for the two years Yam made the P165 (1971/2 - it then became the Mariner A8, and parts lists suggest they changed to the modern 2-pin fitting).

Cheers, hope to be able to report back soon.

(Sadly, Steve, the guy who ran that eBay store passed away a few weeks ago, and his son Paul is trying to continue with it. He was pleased he'd been recommended by 'Oldman' on this forum :-) )

That Yamaha one is hard to find and were terrible for drawing air. Why not take out the fitting out the side of the Yamaha and fit a matching pair from a later suzuki/Tohatsu or any other matching pair. I would be bolting a later Yamaha 8c type male connection to the carry handle and run the fuel hose through a grommet to the filter unless of course your needing this to be 100% original for a reason.

Thanks for looking, Dave.

Cheers, Davie. Yes that is the alternative solution - a matched-pair of modern Suzuki or Tohatsu connectors would do the job right enough whilst possibly not even requiring any mods to the engine casing.

It's just that the 11mm Suzuki item looks absolutely identical to the old Yam's, and if it does fit it'll save a bit of hassle as they are so easily available.

I'm going to wait for confirmation about this first, before resorting to replacing both parts.

Actual originality isn't the issue - even tho' this P165 has only been used briefly for one season in its whole life! - but I certainly don't want to start doing stuff that ain't necessary, such as widening the connector hole if I can help it.

I'm hoping the guy on eBay will come back with measurements of the Suzuki jobbie.

The suzuki one wont fit and seal. What you will find is that although it clips on, the the ball bearing in your part will not match the pin in the hose end and it will not let fuel through, been there! Do yourself a favour and buy a known matching pair.

Ah. Many thanks Davie.

Not the answer I wanted to hear, but pleased to hear it all the same!

Cheers - that saved a wild goose chase :-)
