Evinrude advise

Hi does anyone know from these pics if this is a ficht? I've read a lot of places to stay away from them and don't want to buy one unknowingly!

Any advise would be very much appreciated

Thanks

Jon

Can't make out from the photo, but it has a "4" on the side, if it's a 4 stroke it ain't a FICHT. On the plate, there should be a model number & a date of manf. See if you can get those & post them. Tbh it doesn't look like a ficht & I'm not sure they made them a small as 30hp

Thanks. It's definitely a 4stroke. What are evinrude like? This one is a 2000 engine.
I am looking at it on Sunday but have little knowledge of them!

Thanks again

Jon

If it's a four stroke, they probably didn't make it. It has a Suzukiesque look about it...

The new what? Johnson and Evinrude stopped doing 4 strokes around 2006ish, scrapping the Johnson brand at the same time.

They've rebadged the TMC 3.5, 4, 6, 9.8 and 15hp. Did hear that dealers weren't keen on stocking in the UK due to the price compared to Mariner, Mercs and Tohatsoos.

Could be wrong, but was there not a period of time that OMC or Bombadier or whoever owned evinrude/johnson at the time produced their own fourstrokes.? Second are clearly suzuki, but the first one isn't..

I'm sure Fichts only started at 90hp with OMC. bombardier then bought In to them about 2002 - 2003 ( I think) they spent a fortune sorting out issues then evinrude bought them out and developed the e-tec.
Mine is a 1999. It's got 196 hrs on in total and apart from the minor issue's it's an excellent engine and massive power to weight

I think you will find that Evinrude are part of Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP)

aye, they are now, but in the good old days, they were owned by OMC. A combination of faults with the FICHT engines which earned them a poor reputation (I had mine for 6 years & it never missed a beat) & developing the Etec, sent them under. This allowed the Japs to gain a stronger foothold in Europe which Evinrude have struggled to overcome. Combined with low service costs, which makes them unattractive to dealers, the brand has suffered in recent years.
