Engine weight and transoms

It's been an awfully long time since I posted here, and unfortunately an awfully long time since I've used my RIB thanks to my engine catching fire and my tubes falling apart. However, I've been saving hard and I'm hoping with the wind in the right direction we may be getting things sorted for next year, so the research has started now.
Here's the question, I have a Tornado 5.1, the max HP is 90, the max weight is 140kg. However the lighest 90hps that I can find are the Evinrude at 145kg and the Tohatsu at 143kg. Obviously the hull is no longer under any sort of warranty. Can anybody see an issue with me going for the max HP even though it's a little over the max weight?

Yep, insurance, if you go over your weight and you have an issue which involves the authorities, and they check. your insurance becomes invalid, and you will be screwed.

I cant see a couple of Kilos being an issue myself there must be a margin for things like A-frames Radar ect
If the Boat is otherwise SOUND I would'nt Stress it! BUT thats just me

What engine was fitted originally and are you looking at a new or used replacement motor? If used, then a Yam 90 would be a good choice - only around 120ish kg.

The insurance is an interesting and valid point, however my rib doesn't have a plate giving the spec, the information is from Barnet Marine who I believed used to be the UK distributor for Tornado, the HP is backed up in this link
WHICH DIVE BOAT?
but the weight seems to be based on a 5m not a 5.1m

It was a Merc 60HP. I'm hoping to go new, however if things start to get too complicated I may have a look for a good second hand complete rig.

Hi everyone

I am new to this and pick up a brand new Honwave t35 with tohatsu 20 next week. Where do I go for insurance? can it go on my house insurance? (i will not be using a trailer) it will travel in boot of my A6.

Any help would be very welcome.

I never really thought about this.

I have a Zodiac 2.85m SIB and it's rated to 8hp. The maximum transom loading is 38kg.

I am using a Tohatsu 9.8hp on it, obviously it is 1.8hp over the rating for the boat, but it only weighs 26kg.

Could this combination invalidate my insurance, say if the boat was stolen? I imagine it would be possible to check and then they could say "oh, we are not paying out on this"?

That would be very unfortunate, especially as the 9.8hp Twatsoo is derived from the 8hp model.

Craft Insure will probably insure anything !
based on my recent experience,(see previous post) they were happy to quote for a 90 yam on a five foot rib.
(so I'm now looking for a 40 pitch laser prop for a ninety yam !)
