Engine Transfer

Hi chaps,

I currently run a 2000 Yamaha 70hp 2-stroke, however, I have the opportunity to pick up a free Mercury 2001 75hp 2-stroke with less than 25 hours on the prop. I would swap my engine onto the other boat only incurring the cost of the transfer.

Would you do it and if so why ? Finally, how much would a decent job cost ?

Don't see the point meself. The Yamaha you have is in good condition and ideally suited to your boat. While an engine swap is fairly straight forward, you would also have to change the control box/loom which can be a bit fiddly on the Medline. As this information solves your dilemma, you can pass the free Mercury onto me.

OK, if you pm your address, I'll send it back although with some reluctance as it's the finest cup in all the world. It is the finest cup I've ever had because its exactly half a litre which is great for measuring two stroke oil.

MMMMMM...

And just big enough to pee in as I did before you took a swig of my coffee.

I tell you what, I already have your address so I'll post the lid to you on monday once I get it from Abersoch. That way you won't spill your oil. I still owe you a drink for your help so I'll also pop some bits and bods in as well.

Hey MeMe if your looking to sell on your engine or the newly aquirred engine i'd be in the market for it at the right price of course.

Let me know and also how you've managed to come across a new engine like this.

Motor swop

I know a guy had a 55 Mariner on a 5.5 Tornado, put a 60 hp on to the back yeah 5 hp more it went slower, the Yam was heavier (power to weight ratio) so check out the weights before you decide to do it , it might not be a good move for 5hp its hardly worth it, I would reckon you could tweak a couple more hp from the Yam anyway carb jetting, polishing , propping changing inlet port profile etc etc
