Diesel problems

I heard that some of the largest diesel inboards tend to have a problem with their outdrives, especially the big Yanmar 300 coupled to Mercruiser Bravo 3, but also others as well.
Is it true that smaller engines are trouble free?
I am planning to buy my first diesel RIB and this is a matter of consern.

When this is solved I will have to choose amongst Revenger, Scorpion, Ribtec, Tornado, Ribcraft and Protector for a sturdy, serious offshore cruising boat.Mission Impossible!

Also, anyone with an opinion on PERKINS SABRE range of diesels?
