Can I get more Speed ?

Honda 130 hp on a Tornado 5.8 rib, I am looking at purchasing this rib and he says max 30 knts ???! I am new to Ribs but I would of thought 130 horses on a 5.8 rib should equate to nearer 40knts. I would hope !!!

Am I right in thinking this can be sorted by prop choice ? or .........

The Honda is a lot of the problem. They're old hat and heavy. If you page through the members list, you won't find too many of us running Honda O/B's

Actually, it's 104 of 6901 members running Hondas.

Thanks Mollers, as usual info is King ! my experience with boats comes from a 2007 Mastercraft and the 6.7 V8 for my skiing.

I have a lot to learn where RIBS are concerned !! I was thinking WRONGLY Honda reliable not Power to weight ratios

THANKS If I EVER GET TO THE WATER AT THIS RATE THERES A DRINK WAITING FOR ALL YOU KIND SOULS that have helped so much - enough now I will get up of my knees

What is max design hp for a 5.8 Tornado? It must be 130-150ish.

i used to drive a similar set up with the 130 honda on the back, with a full boat (10ish people) and trimmed right you would get 30 kts, so with the tornado you should get 40ish kts on a light boat if its trimmed right (alot of people dont know how to use the power trim)

I was told the HP on the Honda's of that era were measured at the flywheel and not the prop and that the 130's actually put out something like 115hp at the prop.

Also was told to watch for cracks around the valve seats too.

I doubt whether 40knts would be achievable with that set-up. The boat you're describing might well have been under-propped as a dive set-up or something similar. Chuck the 10 people out and it might not have gone a lot quicker.

Unless you got them to change the prop before they drowned.
