For anyone toying with the idea over fitting an engine more powerful than the boat is rated for you need to consider that if you have an accident the authorities would frown upon it and I'm not sure your insurer's would be too excited either.

Not much at all as far as ribs are concerned, currently have a regal 18 foot bowrider with a 1.7 dti inboard, and budget probably about £7000

Even a moderately outboard powered rib ie one powered within its recommended hp range will feel quick compared to your present boat Those 1.7 are a gutsy engine for their size but that boat will be a lot more sedate than an outboard powered rib in your size range even with its allowable max engine
Personally I'd try and have a go in a couple of ribs to get an idea of the difference before you jump into something that might be more of a handful than you expect
I'm not knocking your present boat (I've owned one) but it's a totally different animal to a 6m outboard rib
