Best engine

Well its happened!.The thieving b@@@___s have taken my engine and i am now looking to replace it.The rib is a 7 meter ring rib and had a 150 four stroke on the back.I am now thinking that a larger unit might serve me better but am unsure as to the best make.Would the Evinrude be a good choice or is there a better make out there?.Thanks in advance

Speak to Ian at Liverpool Powerboats. Top bloke. He's a big fan of Etecs, but is also an agent for Yam and Suz.

Perhaps you could consider moving to avoid losing the next one. Anywhere would do!

RIBase
Definately worth looking at some sort of tracker-system. Seems these larger engines are being exported to Europe so chances or recovery are slim.

Was it taken off the water or from storage? Friend lost his 200 4 stroke off the mooring on the straits in October.

Going over tuesday to have a look.A friend had the arduous task of phoning me with the news (not a pleasant call to make) I believe the angle grinder was used with upmost professionalism but will have to wait a little longer for a full inspection

The boat is 7m, a 250 is max design hp. I chose the Etec as, with plenty of research and advice, I considered it the best 250 on the market so, what I'm about to say has nothing to do with 'brand loyalty bollox' as Polwart puts it.

The etec has stunning pull-out which is a characteristic of the Etec injection system, it's quiet for a 2st and reasonably economical for a big lump.

On the downside, It's a nightmare to w/board/waterski behind, as the injection system doesn't do small throttle increases (it can be re-mapped to iron this out) and the XD100 oil is expensive, but the 3yr service intervals offsets this cost somewhat.

The only other 250 I'd consider would be a Verado.

Weren't you considering a Soozook DF250 when you bought the e-tec?

Yep, because of cost and colour. Ian @ Liverpool Powerboats was pushing me towards the Etec. BRP then dropped the price to match the DF and chucked in free 5 yr extended warranty. It was a lucky escape.

I reckon she would've been a bit numb by comparison.

You were gonna buy it 'cos it was Cheap & Black? You're lucky you didn't get a steam powered unit with those criteria

I reckon the determining factor was only cost and he threw colour into the equation to make himself sound less of a tight arse.

I've noticed that with mine, thought it was the way the control box was set up. I will look into the remapping to get a smoother power delivery. Other then that i can recommend the e-tec's, I looked into both Yams and Suzuki when i re-engined but they were two heavy for a twin set up - also expensive.
