Avon super sport planing

My AVON supersport rib has the Yamaha 30 hp long shaft engine and the previous owner has fitted plastic extension fins to the gearbox leg, is there any difficulty getting this rib on the plane with this engine? I’d like to remove the fins and just have the standard leg.
What do you guys think?
Cheers!

Yes, I'd suggest you get them off there.

Maybe with 4 on board and 2 full tanks, it was riding a bit stern-heavy, so the previous owner fitted the fins to help it get on the plane.

I've removed fins from 2 boats so far and improved the performance & handling. There are scenarios where they improve matters. You may need to muck about with the engine trim once they are off.

Worst case if you take them off and it handles like a pile of mince, put them back on!

Why not try it with them and then decide ? Any reason you really want to take them off ?

They were clearly put on for a reason ( as has been said maybe to conter being a bit tail heavy ) .

I added them to my 4m as while it planed easily it did a good impression of a rocket until it got going. Admitedly it was only for a second or so , but helped me no end & I can now plane at lower speeds ( within the harbour speed limit )
