As a footnote , from my experience , it wasn't enough just to run the auxiliary on a regular basis ........ you had to put it into gear ( both forward and reverse ) to prevent the gear linkages from seizing .I understand this was a not uncommon problem . Worth washing down when flushing main engine and lubricate if possible .

I'd be looking to fit on the starboard side as the steering drag link will always be an issue. What size of auxilliary do you need to fit?
That won't work either because the fixed steering tube is on that side. See photo.

If I'm going to carry an auxiliary on this boat, i think it will have to be some sort of bracket.

I had the same issue; couldn't mount it straight onto the transom because of the steering. This works well. £40 new off eBay. I cut it down for my smaller transom but you could easily mount something bigger on there if you left it as is:

Edit: just searched ebay and looks like I got a bargain. They seem to be selling for £85 now. Rated to take a 10hp. Still not a bad price:

Am I right in assuming that the correct height for the auxiliary engine would be at the transom top as if it where clamped across it?

I would like an elegant solution that will look right and meant to be there. I am now thinking of a nice shiny horizontal stainless bracket made to bolt to the A-bar bolts on one side and the engine bolts on the other with a wooden engine mount bolted to the stainless..

I think I will make an aluminium one first to get the dimensions right.

In theory the av plate should be almost level with the hull but in practice as long as the prop reaches the water it will be fine. Your only going to be doing displacement speed so the prop will still push the boat even set "too high"

Agreed. If it's a long shaft engine, I'd fit a long shaft auxilliary. The skeg and propeller even in the tilted position will be exposed to salt water wash, so run it and flush it afterwards, regardless of whether you use it. It's good practice, as when you actually need it, it needs to fire up on the button.

Did you follow through on this yet? What shaft length did you buy for the kicker?

Finally Have Bracket and Kicker Mounted

Hello friends just seeing the convo, I ended up having a custom aluminum bracket built. powdercoated and mounted. Works great. 6hp motor pushes the beast just under 5 knots.

Thank you for the Tips!

Happy Ribbing, Ribbed for her pleasure!

Had a TREM 20hp rated bracket on the 7.8 Ballistic, and a short shaft pushed it fine.It stood up to 47kts with no issues as well.
The bracket pushing the motor back meant the prop was in clear enough water. You don't need to worry about it being right under the hull for displacement speeds.
