Aux RC585

Out of interest has anyone fitted an aux engine to a Ribcraft 585 / Suzuki 140? If so which one, and how did it perform?

I have a Mercury/Mariner 4hp with the Saildrive prop on my Vipermax 5.8 and it will chug along happily at about 4 knots or so in fairly benign conditions.

Thanks for the responses. Sounds like a 4hp might get me out of trouble, although I guess in a blow it will be more difficult.

A couple more questions. Did you all manage to clamp them to the transom, or did you need a bracket? Also are they standard shaft or long shaft?

had lift bracket on fast fisher long shaft, used transom on rib but very tight A frame gets in the way short shaft no through choice just had it for a sib too but its a displacement craft at that speed and plenty of water gets to the prop that far up the deadrise go for a 6hp if it will fit thats the problem you will have

On transom port side and put handle thru a frame therefore giving me more room and it's fine.

Thanks for the advice. I'll have to keep an eye out for the right engine on eBay. Or if anyone knows of one going for gentle money, even if it needs some work.
