Aux move

I'll have to move my aux of the transom. Anybody got a good set up on others areas of the rib they want to share.

There was a bloke at Easdale with a boat called Raven who had his on a mount forward of the console - technical but sweet. I know a lad with a big RIB who has pod seats that lift out and can be replaced with an AUX stand.

Oof, in the part of the world you boat in you want your aux quick to deploy. If your engine dies in the middle of the sound in anything other than ideal conditions you don't want to be standing trying to wave 15+kg of engine around to get it on the transom whilst 4+ knots of current decide your fate. Maybe if you always went out with a fit, competent crew who knew the drill (and could be rigging the aux at the first inkling of an issue while you run through the oh shit check list) - but I don't think thats your normal MO?

Is a bracket impossible?

What's the problem? Not enough steering clearance etc?

I have a partuicularly small amout of space- One option is (although this has issues in itself) to find yourself a narrow bodied Aux - tho' in the modern 4 - stroke world they are like hen's teeth - another option is to modify your aux bracket. I have no pics to hand here but I bought a clamp off a dead one of my Aux and to put none to fine a point on it - butchered it to fit round my towing eye as that was the only way it would clear the A- frame & the main.

Extreme - maybe, but once the frame is replaced I put my Bigger Aux on and replace the clamp with the original on my anorexic Johnsorude. You might have seen it at Easdale last year?

I am already putting plans together for the replacement frame which invvolve the frame curving out over the toobs, a n integral clamp plate and moving / re drilling for the tow eyes. There is a corner of me also wondering about trying to build in a support for the leg when it's up having read lots of "knackered aux tilt gubbins" threads on here... but i may also just look for another dead clamp bracket & modify it, as my "soluid support" on the current museum piece works really well.

Before then I just made a point of crusiing in company. Admittedly not maybe an option for you.

Following this with interest. I'm in the process of speccing up the next boat & it will have a main +AUX engine wise. I'd much prefer the AUX to be permanently bolted to the transom, rather than having to bugger about when it all goes pete tong.

My present set up with a mild steel painted bracket as a test (3 years) I'll get around to knocking one up in stainless soon

Yes I'm sure it does but how much compared to the 250 Etec sitting next to it?

I had a similar set up on the 6.5 and never had a problem.

The transom will be rated to take a certain weight, I know, but if its up to the maximum limit (I'm not saying that yours is) and your out riding over heavy chop an auxiliary bracket sticking out a foot or so, with a largish outboard attached, can't really be doing the transom any good due to the leverage forces being applied to it.

I would have thought that it would be much better bolted flush to the transom if space allows.

Or am I just being cynical ?

Cynical but it's been ok up to now, does it mean you can't use the tow eyes if you at max transom weight too I've no idea ?
So when I make up the stainless one do you want one foc from the left overs
maybe a couple available
