Takes me back - to the dive club boat in the early noughties. FICHT RAM technology was much superior to DI, which was pants. Some would say that FICHT was ETEC by a different name but what would I know?

I had a 175 FICHT RAM on a RC585, it was just about as much fun as you could have without taking your clothes off. They were VERY sensitive to soot, you had to run them on the proper oil or they had a tendency to seize or score a bore. I never had any problems with mine, but it was looked after. They were indeed the forerunner to the Etec & it was the development of the Etec that bankrupted OMC. Dunno if I’d want to take one on without knowing it’s history.

Weren't they the start of Evenrudes failure ? I have a boating magazine here stating just that. Can't speak from experience as Ive stayed well clear of them, also dont know anyone who had one and I know a hell of a lot of boat owners.

This is my understanding of it but the build quality was the let down on an otherwise damn fine idea.

If it was me, I’d be looking to buy the outfit with the engine as scrap value only. If it works, bonus.
