20HP Tohatsu for 43kg (94.7 lbs.)

https://www.tohatsu.com/marine/na/outboards/20_4st.html

This is nearly the same as my 9.9. What's the catch?

Same engine, power limited using different ecu and intake restriction. Same with Suzuki 9.9/15/20hp.

Oh my 9.9 isn't a Tohatsu. It's a Lehr which is basically a Yamaha save for the propane intake. Weighs 40kg, which I think is common for 4 stroke 9.9s.

Most 15 and 20s I've looked at are closer to 50kg. Tohatsu somehow has a much lighter one.

I think Tohatsu make most of the sub 30hp engines for several brands. Merc and Mariner I think. 43kg is the 20 without electric start etc but the 9.9, 15s etc are the same engine with different fuelling

So in the world of modern 4 strokes the 20s are a reasonable weight but the 10a and 15s are darn heavy.

Any resources for "converting" 9.9 hp Tohatsu to 20 hp? I plan to start that shortly, after complete break in

Look here:
Tohatsu Parts Catalogue
Compare part numbers paying particular attention to the ECU and inlet manifold.

You need:
3RS-02418-0 Gasket
3RS-06401-0 ECU assy

You remove:
3RU-02418-0 Gasket
3RU-03536-0 Restrictor
3RU-06401-0 ECU assy

Optional:
3RS-87801-1 Decal Set
