1998 mariner 75 2s issues

Hi guys,

One of the sailing academy craft are having issues with the engine ticking over in gear.

It runs fine at idle and high speed. As soon as its put into gear forward/astern it cuts out.
My thoughts are
1. Timing issue on carbs
2. Carbs need balancing adjusting reeds, flutter valve checking etc
3. Stator issue, dodgy corroded wires
4. Coils and spark per cylinder ( check by simply pulling the ht on each etc)
5. Fuel - not getting sufficient flow, vent etc.
Idle speed seems ok. Around 750/800rpm

Any thoughts??

P.s I'm thinking of power tuning also as a poss measure

does it get trimmed in as far as it will go? If it does trim it inso that it is straight up and down. When you trim the obm so its tucked under it ticks over in a rich condition.
