1984 mariner 90 not firing?

Hi all,

Took the boat out yesterday no problems had a great day, coming back in we dropped someone on a beach, then engine stalled and then wouldn't restart. All I got was just a click from the back which to me says starter / solenoid / crap battery?

This morning it did the same, it fired once after about 5 mins, but then went back to clicking... that suggests its not the battery as it did have enough juice to fire it once?

Its an 1984 mariner 90 straight 6 two stroke aka 'Tower of Power'

Any ideas before I hand it over to a mechanic??

Put a battery directly too the starter motor . if she CRANKS over fine then Soleniod . if it sparks everytime you touch the positive onto the starter positive it will be the starter . more likely the solenoid .QUICK test when you go too CRANK it and the prob is there and it clicks , WHACK THE SOLENOID somehow as normally these are just the contacts inside and they stick .chow
