It's easier when fitted to the boat. Grab the handle on the rear of the engine cover and lift the engine up completely until the last click. It should then support itself in its most tilted out position. On the left of the engine (as viewed from inside the boat looking rearwardly) you'll see a little knob at the back of the engine mount bracket that should be labelled 1,2,3. Slide the knob to the desired trim position and lift the engine by its last click which will allow it to return to the down position at the selected trim. Repeat the procedure if you are not happy with the trim. It will get onto the plane easier with the knob at it's lowest position but you wont get max speed because the engine is trying to push the boat out of the water. It will won't get onto the plane well with the knob at it's upper position but you will get max speed because the engine is trying to push the boat out horizontally. Unfortunately you cant adjust the trim whilst running. I find the engine cavitates badly on anything except the lowest position. Hope this helps.

Hi

Had a yam mariner 1982 15c.There is a leaver mid leg it would either lock the engine in down position or do it the other way you could tilt the engine fully up,also in this position if in shallow water and touching the bottom it would also allow the engine to tilt but unable to use reverse as it will lift.

P's. Also when engine is mounted on the transom.Look over the back levers on the left
