I think it was a typo

Although ...lIm pretty sure "wave speeds" dont so easily equate so much with wind speeds .....thankfully!

Waves don't "travel" at all.
They merely move and down.

"Waves are created by energy passing through water, causing it to move in a circular motion. The ocean is never still. Whether observing from the beach or a boat, we expect to see waves on the horizon. Waves are created by energy passing through water, causing it to move in a circular motion."-Prof. Google

Don't search 'rogue waves' or 'freak waves' on YouTube.

I used to know this when doing my Naval Architecture degree many years ago. Long forgotten however.

A wave with a significant wave height of 1.2m (.9m average, 2m max) travels through the water at about 21kph(water does not actually move...much)

At significant wave height of 2.5 (1.5m average, 5m max)goes up to 28kph

These are waves most representative of what you see in a Small rib/sib.

A deep water wave moving at 600mph would have such a long wavelength compared to its height that you would not event notice it. What you notice, and what is dangerous, is wave steepness compared to its height. It would be a very very very loooong swell.

A wave breaks when it’s height to length ratio is greater than 1/7.
