Member map ?

On a couple of other forums I frequent there is a member map allowing you to see roughly where others are in the country . Its proved very helpful when trying to get help etc ..

Any chance of somthing like this on here . While we know roughly where people are would it help when poeple want advice for a certain area or if they are chasing something in a certain town etc.

Obviously not street specific , but just general town with a pin in it type thing ?

Only small problem might be locations like "UK", "up north"and "Monnako" (Although I believe that fish has left the country....)

Is there a reason not to just post "XYZ wanted in ABC" on the forum? I've generally found that to work. That may uncover people who actually can help with multiple locations etc, e.g. many people can help with clyde/west coast stuff who don't live on the coast. I got some great advice from a Tiree local by PM on a thread I started last year, but also both on the thread and by PM from people who's 'official location' is miles away. You can search the members list if you have a specific location, although e.g. it will only work if they have volunteered the info and given it in the same form, e.g. Glasgow, rather than Strathclyde.

We have over 6000 users, but many are 'dormant' and either won't respond or might have a long delay for a response. Whilst there is a community spirit on the forum not everyone wants to be pestered by people wanting help.

I thought this had been tried a very long time ago (but it might have been another forum I frequented) and people were jumpy about providing too much info to thieves - although at a 'town' level it may not be a worry.
