John,

just thought I would voice my support for the improved forum. I frequently was irritated by either the forum marking messages as read when I was just too slow reading unread messages (particularly if I hadnt been on for a while, and had a lot of reading to do!) or marking messages as read if e.g. I picked up a PM when at work but didn't have time to catch up on the forum.

for those who are grumbling - then I think

In the attachment then threads above "the attachments below have not been..." I think behave 'exactly' as they did before, and those below are for those of us who are a little slower!

OK, you've got me baffled. I don't understand what you are finding difficult.

You don't have to mark things as read/unread. The system now does it automatically, message by message, based on whether you have actually read the message or not. Just like an email program.

If you chose not to read all the messages then you can manually mark sections (or the whole forum) as read if you want to. That's the only time you should need to do anything other than just read the messages.

Is it not working for you?

I think it works perfectly fine now, better than it used to be

I USED to be able to read a message and it would automatically show up as having been read(text would change from bold to normal), Now it does change but next time I log on it changes back to bold type even if nobody else has posted - most annoying!!!

Just press the "New Posts" button when you enter the forum then all you will get is the new stuff

OK, that's not how it's meant to work.

It seems to be working for most people! I'll have a look and see if there are any known issues that might be causing your problem.

What browser are you using?

I am using Firefox like I always have. the problem seems to have resolved itself now but it did yesterday and came back - will let you know if it happens again.

I seem to have found a workaround for that. Suggested by JK.

Mark all the forums as read. You have to do it for each section. Takes a little while but all sorted now.

You can also just mark the whole forum as read, by looking down the bottom of the page, just to the left of where it says "View Forum Supporters". It's in between the end of the archive, and the beginning of "What's going on?".

John I think the problem now is that when you've finished looking at the forum there are always threads that you don't want to read (for whatever reason). Now with the old system the "Highlighted unread" threads would go out (be as if you'd read em) when you next logged in. That way you could always see New threads much more clearly instead of trawling though all the threads you weren't really intrested in.

Kind of like an Automatic "Mark threads as read"

If that makes any sence
