This may be a long campaign gentlemen .. until Mr Rocket extracts the digit ... we may be bereft of pictorial nomenclature for good, as it has been proven to be such a simple exercise, one must ask the reasons why ? So I ask you Sir, why not ? ... indeed I'll give you your first bullet to quote from - as so:

Here's a well-known vBulletin forum that allows avatars. Some users use them, some don't. Where's the harm. It brightens things up.

Okay, what about this? RIB.net Supporters (i.e. they have paid for membership) can have custom avatars?

Argue your way out of that suggestion.

just ones view on these is that the wee photos people pick to stick on these things are fine, as in not my bag but if you think a kitten with a hat on is funny then fine. I agree with JK in that I can't see how they can add anything to what is a good forum... but these ones that move and jump about the place i find very distracting, they just do my head in.

I don't need to!

At the moment we have a five page thread which mainly consists of three people endlessly asking for avatars. Your views have been noted, but they don't aquire any extra weight through repetition . . .

I don't know what all the fuss is about - It's not going to be life changing, but it might brighten the place up a bit, of course that might be too much for some! Do you think this would be over the top?

I think he is refering to http://www.boatmad.com/ its is a special place for those people who like animated gifs on the left of the screen to distract them from all the talk of whos engine is bigger than whos and who has polished their hull to the best shine.
