I noticed the other day that it is now recorded on the bottom of the index page that the highest ever member number was on 10th Jan and was 1,825. I'm sure that it was only 650~ish up till then? Maybe thats the reason for the big slow down, I've rarely seen it above 200, not even 300 let alone 1,825!?
I don't think so, the reported problems were not a one-off incident for a short time (the 1825 members were more like about 1750 search engine spiders and about 75 real people) but have now stopped when the "members list" became disabled; presumably because the members list database is a bit screwed up.
