Pete is this for you? If it is, I would say with your experience, you could go straight to Advanced with little trouble.

I appreciate your confidence ! At the moment it is for a 'paper exercise' as I have been asked about shared ownership of my boat for which the other party has asked I get something to show some degree of vague competence.

It may or may not happen but thought I may do something anyway if only to keep me occupied in the next few weeks. ( If you need a spare pair of (unqualified) hands anytime let me know).

I did my PB intructors course and then attended a PB 2 course at Tims. I have to say he runs a smooth course. He has a great manner with his students and I was able to learn a lot from him during my attendance to gain experience.

As a mainland alternative, Paul Glatzel at Powerboat Training UK (Cobbs Quay, Poole) has couses scheduled for 1/2 (possibly too late now), 5/6 and 9/10 June and regularly thereafter.

You are maybe better of going to Tim for the convenience otherwise i know Plymouth Powerboat School and Devon Powerboating, both placed in plymouth put on courses when there is demand. Depends if you fancy a trip to the west country too!

Have you considered doing the PB 2 assessment? If you have, and from reading others post you have, the experience you can do a straight assessment taking around half a day.

Both my wife and I did our PB2 course with Tim recently and I agree with Ian of C2Ribs. I learnt absolutely tons, it was great fun, and Tim gave top advice about how to further improve my "Rib" life. I would strongly recommend him.

As has been said if you are already competent you can simply do the assessment which is half a day (?) and costs less. If you contact a centre they should be able to arrange this as a one on one exercise. I'd give Stormforce in Southampton a call - they have a lot of instructors so can probably arrange one for you pretty quickly.

Thanks all , after a degree of buggering around when I thought I was free to be told I infact wasn't ( by Mrs M...) I have arranged an assesment to be very convenient to me,- all of 100 yards from my house with Ribnetter, in Streaker (I think mainly to make it harder as it doesn't go backwards very well...).

Maybe the first of several qualifications...I am feeling very very out qualified by other ribbers/kids/ friends and its never to late to learn what I have been doing wrong all these years !

Many thanks to Brian of Ashby Powerboat School for sorting this out for me. A very pleasant couple of hours on the water with a great approach & sensible attitude to boating.

We even managed to tow yet another boat back up the river so hopefully another bit of good 'karma' in the bank for me should I ever need it. The owner of said boat was keen to take tow only from us & even now is hopefully speaking to Brian to arrange some time of his own with him.

Thanks to all for emails etc .

Pete
