Work in watersports

Hi James

Youv'e got a good base of qualificatiosn but really need to move them up 1 level in order to get employment. You should be thinking about doing the Dinghy Instructors course and possibly the powerboat instructors.

The mininum age for both is 16, however there is far less work for a 16yr old powerboat instructor. The rsaon being that dinghy instructors are working with kids more than adault where as powerboat instructors are working more with adults. Most employers therefore are looking for adults to teach powerboating but are quite happy with 16-17 yrs olds working with dinghy sailing courses.

In simple terms devote the next few years to gaining as many qualifications and experience as possible. A coupl of seasaosn as a DI will help tremendously towards developing other areas.

Best of luck

Jobs

It is worth mentioning your exdperience and quals as above to Sunsail - if you're willing to spend a season in the sun then they are a good employer for working the beach at their beach club resorts - long days hard work but something I wished I had done when younger, even if just for one season...

www.sunsail.com for info...you may also have to be 18 but not sure on this one...they're helpful so give them a ring - nothing ventured...!

They do require safety boat Dinghy Instructor etc so it would seem you are well on your way..

Just thoughts,

Gordon...

You could try Rat Island sailing school on St Marys in the Scillies 01720 422060. THey have two bases one on St M and the other on Tresco and take on people just for the summer season and lots of kids to teach.
