just called them from the number on their website and the lady said the have no vacancies for any positions at the moment due to the time of year and dont start taking on again until the spring.
Not trying to imply anything, just letting everyone know what I've just been told.
If anyone has or gets any further information, please feel free to correct me

Does it look real? Of course it isn't.

There will doubtless be a small up front fee payable to Capt. Barrington Humphrey in order to progress your application for a job that doesn't exist.

Looks very much like a scam, either to get your personal details for use in other scams including your passport photo or what would follow would be some form of fee request or a request for your bank details. If it looks too good to be true then it isnt true. Also while the business address and website does relate to london river cruises look at the email address he uses @gmail.com which is a giveaway, especially as the river cruise company has a domain registered and hence would be using name@londonrivercruises.com.

Similar adds with a contact address @yahoo.com

I just contacted Captain Barrington about a job, he said a test of my suitability for the role would require me to send him my bank details and PIN number, his brother needs to move a large amount of inheritance money from (unknown African state) to England, if i could then send the money on he would allow me to keep 10% fee for my troubles.

He also said he has a zodiac pro 650 for sale, i will probably buy it as it was only £500 and i dont even have to worry about collecting it, they will freight it to me......how good is that!

That type of job sounds perfect for me! However, I soon won't have to work as I'm helping the son of a recently deceased dictator who wants to get $500,000,000 out of his country and if I let him use my bank account I'll get 15%!

Reminds me of that comedy sketch (was it Harry Enfield?) with the rich old guys trying to give away boats and money, but nobody would believe them.

Its like an old friend of mine who didnt see anything wrong with being paid £2000 for bringing a car back from Spain for a guy he knew called 'Bob'. Needless to say it was only a matter of time before he got pulled

Good scam!

They mainly target those who just dream and think it is an easy way to earn good money; mainly nationals outside Europe.

Usually, they accept your application, and in some cases even invite you for an interview (telephone or through Skype). Then you are offered a good job with a possible start date!

The scam usually is :

1) That's when they come to you and ask for a weird qualification that you don't have (and possibly does not even exist). So you are tempted to start the job, but don't have that particular qualification. They tell you they can arrange for the qualification to be awarded based on your experience etc. but you should cover the cost (very little perhaps!) and then you must pay them first!

Or

2) They ask you to pay for some work permit fees .

The payment is made, and then goodbye! You won't hear from them again!

Hmmm...so is the general feeling that one shouldn't apply...?

In seriousness there are those who do fall foul of these sorts of scams.

Have a look here for some incredibly funny scam baiting - basically you reply to the scam ad acting in all good faith and see how long you can keep baiting the scammers - absolutley hilarious what some of these scammers will do to secure your hard earned cash...!

419 BAITER | Scambaiting: Stringing-along 419 Scammers for my Amusement

and if you want to know how much fun this can really be :-

419 BAITER - The Johnson Njoku Letters - Page 1

Love the made up names (made up by those baiting the scammers) :-

Patti Kake, Shanda Leer, and Father Hershey Barr

and what 'church' does Father Hershey Barr minister at :-

Our Lady of Perpetual Piercings Holy Church
18580 Roflmao Rd.
Evansville, IN 47747

Just another thought - has anyone actually contacted London River Cruises about this ad...?
