Advanced Power boat Course

Hi all

I am trying to find out where i can get on a course for an advanced power boat ticket, with a view to become comercially endorsed, very soon.

Any info greatly recieved.

Err thought you was mates with Dave Hickman give him a bell www.powerboat-instruction.co.uk i think is his website. If not come to the Solent every nav mark in the book lots of shipping movement best place in the world for training can sort out your commercial exam as well.

I did an Advanced course with David Hickman at the end of last year, as always David was very good & the course was great fun.

I passed the medical for the Commercial Endorsement last week, so now want to know what (in practice) I can do with it.

any idea of the cost involved in these commercial courses?

My boat has previously been mca coded to brown level.

Would I be able to charter the boat out with myself as the skipper with these qualifications???

The brown code is the workboat code. Is the vessel still coded to this or has it lapsed. If lapsed i believe that you will need to start again. There is anew harmonised code that embraces many of the previous separate codes - red, yellow, brown etc

An Advanced Commercial Endorsement (equivalent to Coastal Skipper) allows you to operate up to 20 Miles from a safe haven day or night - or less depending on what the craft is coded to.

Far more info is available here about the endorsment itself http://www.rya.org.uk/training/yacht...tentId=3721708 The cost is set by the RYA and is something like £120. Of course if you undertake additional training with a school ahead of a course then that is charged according to your arrangment with the school.

We did discuss it at the end of last year but it got mislaid/forgot etc.

As David has said, i saw him a couple of days ago and things are on the move.

I am looking forward to the course, might even get to go on a long trip, at night and in bad weather

Well Plymouth is so far away ain't it

I think you have got the wrong impression, i may have found my way to the Solent and more importantly back, but it dont hide the fact i can't do a route on paper chart with all the tides etc

I would like to work toward advanced with comercial endorsement over the next 2 years but noticed in the entry requirements that you need to log 400 miles. G90 has a column for hours logged but not miles, wish I'd noticed earlier! The best that can be done would be an estimate based on the plan for the days so far logged is this ok?

Does this also include days/miles as crew? as I would have to begin logging that.

Hi.

There is no need to actually complete a physical log (unless you want to) it is really just to give you a guide as to the amount of boating you should have done to be at the right level. Note though now (as per other posts) that the commercial endorsement is distinct from the Advanced Certificate. By all means give me a call if you want to discuss your experience level as i can certainly give you a clear indication re whether you have the relevant level of experience.

What is G90? Presume a very old powerboat logbook?

Oh yes G90 is ancient! My plan was to progress to intermediate then onto advanced powerboat and then eventually to get the comercial endorsement. I was concerned that I was not recording my experience in the correct way.

As it is not my profession and is something that I can only do at weekends it will be slow process but rewarding none the less. When ready I'll take the intermediate course, however what I am keenly missing at the moment is a useful session on throttle control and trim control, as yet black arts!
