Who killed "BoatMad"

It appears that someone has killed off BoatMad.

Was it one of the Rib Net members who had it for JF or the newly employed MI5 agents on their first mission.

Or perhaps some poor server maintenance !

"Hotribs" has been 'infiltrated' according to 'Kev', so it may be catching...watch out JK!

Damn right, they also registered with the name and e-mail details of another member. Basically they were continuing long stopped threads off here and caused the rest of us to lose the facility to use HotRIBS.
Thanks pal, the sooner Boatmad is back online the better then you wont be so bored.

So someone posted bad posts (nothing new there) on forums

Someone deleted them ( moderator I assume) nothing new there also

someone pissed off - nothing new there also

Kev shuts it down - why can't he just block em

storm in a tea cup - can't see the big deal ... buggered it up for who ???

At least Hotribs got some coverage for the few who go there - maybe Kev should be happy 0r did it himself

Come on .. at least it brightens a winters nite

Back to playing with blue tooth - I need help

Paul

I noticed earlier in the week that Charles and Mike Garside had both made disparaging remarks about RIBnet which I must say I found rather sad. I thought at the time that it was rather asking for the old wounds to be reopened!

It's not clear why Kevin has decided to close the forums. From what has been said there is either more to it than we know about, or it's a major over reaction. I think it's very unlikely that someone has really "infiltrated" the forums as the forum software is very secure and is well tried and tested.

Anyway Ian, there's nothing that you can do at HotRIBS that you can't do here -- so don't let it cause you too much grief

John

Oh well there's no place like spiritual home!

I had noticed that the Forum was getting slower at times to access and I presumed that the Dbase needed archiving or indexing or Javaing or something. Either that or the BS filters were slowing me down.

I am sure it will be back up again soon and then we cn all wish each other happy Christmas again.

It's a shame Ribnet's been getting a rubbishing but I guess you can't win em all.

JK no that you are the only Rib forum in the country d'ya think you should do something about the outdated heading on the main page. I know I am fkkn banned!

cheers

RIBnet was not getting rubbished, just certain comments/remarks that were made on it.

I don't feel it's an overreaction by Kevin as he went away yesterday and isn't back until Monday. With the time available it would have been inapropriate to leave the Forum 'open'.

JK, you are right, there is nothing there that can't be done here, however it is an option. As ever there will always be some irresponsible individuals that spoil the fun for everyone else. Personaly I enjoy reading the comments and the experiences of ex RIBnet members and HotRIBS Forum is an alternative place to do this.

It's a shame that Mike and Charles feel that it was necessary to "exile" themselves from RIBnet as for most of the time they had much to contribute.

Unfortunately they both gave me public ultimatums which left me unable to back them. It is interesting to note that the behaviour that they so despise has pretty much ceased since they stopped posting -- if you don't feed the trolls they tend to go away.

Quite unbelievable really!

John, you rang me - I DID not give you an ultimatum. I merely re-iterated what I said in my last post.
If you want to encourage trolls (your euphemism) then so be it - it is my choice whether I partake in the forum or not.
I also did not 'rubbish' rib.net on Hotribs - I merely repeated what I have said before.

For everyone's interest the TROLL joined HotRibs with the names 'yournemesis' and 'kevingoulding'. He posted the usual lame-brain stuff he normally does. We ignored him and Kevin deleted his posts as he was (as usual) not offering anything constructive.

just like the real world...

Perhaps one worthwhile measure of the health of a forum (like any group) is its ability to include ('tolerate', 'survive' but more than that...) diversity of opinion, ability, humour, race, contribution, gender etc. etc.

It may be possible to learn a lot from people one doesn't agree with...especially on reflection.

We're all different. Ain't that interesting in itself?

As I read it, that post says "ban the people I don't like, or I'll leave". I don't think that I misunderstood it, but let me know if I got it wrong. I called you to let you know that things had calmed down, to explain why I had made the choices I made, and to let you know that I hoped you would come back.

I don't encourage trolls (a well established internet term btw), I work hard to manage and discourage them. Of the 41,000 messages on RIBnet, the vast majority are genuine, useful, and helpful. Trolls do tend to appear on all forums from time to time and simply banning a username is counterproductive for a variety of reasons: it's a "result" for the troll, and they can simply re-register with a different name.

It is, of course, entirely your choice whether or not you read or post to RIBnet. It's just a shame that you choose not to.

Well, I don't have your posts to refer to, but from memory they were hardly complimentary to most of the 1200 or so registered members here!

Well fella's, I sense from these posts that you think you know the identity of the culprit! In fact, I sense that you think that culprit is me!

Well I'm sorry to disappoint you, but you're totally wrong, and in time, when the true 'infiltrator' is identified, I will expect an appology!

Furthermore, I'll thank you not to flatter yourselves by assuming I would bother to pursue you (Chuck) on to another (sparsely populated, even by boatmad's standards) website, just to continue winding you up.

Let's not forget that 'Yournemesis' was a creation/troll of Charles st Clair Bolam, not me, so your current troll could be any one of the 'Other' people you have upset along the way, wanting to get even.

I will say again, I am not your troll!
