So imagine you've never used a jetski before, but you've got a new girlfriend and she happens to be on the Isle of Man, oh and you're not allowed to visit because of the virus, so what do you do? And once you eventually arrive you're going to have to walk 15 miles to see her, in a wetsuit? And to top it all you go clubbing, twice.

Gotta give him credit for ingenuity, lots of folk done the IOM with jetskis but I wonder where he went via to take over 4 hours to get there, Its a straight run from whithorn

Of course , if he had only dressed up his dangerous stunt as raising money for some good cause or another, he would be a hero, not rightly ridiculed for folly and probably given an honor , Knighthood or Rear Admiral .

He could come in handy tho to patrol Boris British waters on his jet ski to reinforce the hard pressed Royal navy . Be giving him a medal soon enough.

I've measured the distance in Google maps, so works out around 41 miles from Whithorn beach, South Ayrshire to Douglas Harbour, assuming he was using GPS, a compass or following the bleed'n stars!

Nothing but a change of clothes to go clubbing with and his cheese sandwiches in his back-pack.

As for the crossing it’s been done by many skis over the years isn’t exactly extreme.........distance was reported as 26 miles about the same as crossing the Bristol Channel a couple of guys did Holyhead to IoM in 2019 albeit better prepared.

Not the craft I would have chosen but he did it....... there is a lot to be said for carrying enough safety gear to sink a ship when taking a small sun out on a calm day.......but he did more in that one trip than many leisure boaters do in a year!

I think his biggest mistake was to buy the jetski.

If he'd stolen it, he would have been given a rap on the knuckles, declared a victim of circumstance who was trying to turn his life around and a fine to be paid back at 25p per week.

Many years ago, I was rear ended by an uninsured/un-taxed/ driver who only had a provisional licence. She drove off after the incident, but I chased her & cornered her in a cul de sac. She went to court (it was her 3rd similar offence). I had a damages claim in against her of £300, for my excess. She was banned & fined, but my damages were dismissed as it would have caused her “undue financial hardship” ....Is it me??

I can understand your instinctive response in the circumstances Pikey , but sounds like your lucky not to be on the wrong end of a restraining order yourself! Who do you think you are? A Yorkshire Mad Max ?

It was all caught on my dashcam, when confronted by the police she initially denied it, saying the car had been stolen. When the police showed her my dashcam footage clearly showing her at the wheel, she admitted it. I was thanked by the court & police for my efforts and help.
And yes, I am a Yorkshiremen & I was mad[emoji6] mea culpa.

You'll be heartened by an article in the Telgraph today Dave....apparently when "Driverless" cars get the OK....Drivers of said vehicles will not be liable for ANY accident they are involved in.......may be somthing for you're Lady friend to consider
They may even consider an override mode ..."Panic Evasion button"......
just in case they're in you're neck of the woods!??

I read this laughing, as having lived on the ‘isle of Fun’ for a few years back in the 90s the locals always seem to know everything and everyone so a none local would certainly standout, particularly one in a wetsuit!
