Well, i bit the bullet today and finally emancipated myself from Apple.
Ordered a Sony Experia Z Ultra which will be waiting for me when i arrive back at work next week.

Was going to opt for a straight forward Experia Z but figured "Feck it, in for a centime, in for a Euro" and opted for the Experian Ultra.

What a (fecking massive) phone....when choosing accesories i picked out the back-pack straps and jumper cables . Gonna be looking for a case for it tomorrow and hoping Samsonite has something to offer....

Strangely, the Ultra actually has a higher IP rating that the standard Experia Z .

I will post some feedback once i've got the hang of it.

Size doesn't matter ;-)

I've had the Galaxy 4 for a couple of weeks now. It's huge compared to a standard phone, bigger than the old Galaxy I had and the iPhone 4. But here's the thing, it's thin and it's light. It will fit in any pocket and you won't know it's there - fantastic in a suit pocket, just as happy in a pair of levis.

And what a great phone!

Hmm, JK quoted that the other day but i cant seem to find anything that prohibits its use in seawater.
All i can see is the IP rating standard which was based on freshwater immersion. But does that mean that it cant be used by the ocean?

The way i sea it, its IPx8 rated so, apart from some possible corrosion issues with maybe the aluminium housing, it shouldnt suffer any water ingress. A quick wash off in fresh water afterwards should solve that issue..... Right?

I do hope it can be used on the rib as it could solve a lot of issues if possible.

"It is also important that you keep your Xperia Z1 away from:
- Salt water
- Liquid chemicals
- Sand/mud"

I'm assuming that saltwater will fizz any exposed electrical connections into green sludge, faster than you can say Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

Assuming the Z1 is like the z there are only two exposed connections (all others are behind "seals". Those two connections are used for charging without breaking the seal - they appear to be 'gold' plated and reasonably substantial so I think it would be fine if you rinsed it (they show it being used in a swimming pool which is hardly a friendly environment). If you are really worried I am sure you could make a plug of the those points with some Sugru.

I expect the salt water issue is it dries out in the switches mechanically stopping them moving.

I've never purposely tried to soak my Z but so far not issues using in rain.

Ahh but Monsieu Le Pikey my phone is the Experia Ultra and not the Z1.

The Ultra has a glass fibre polyamid frame as opposed to the Z1's frame made from aluminium and luckily the Sony website makes no such statement for the Ultra. ( hence why i couldn't find it ).

Just hope they haven't forgot to add it to the webpage! :-)

Not so fast grass hopper .. I'm still using mine, but its biggest fault is that its speaker is on the back of the phone, so when the phone is lying down, you dont hear it ringing half the time .. its a total pain in the ass .. oh and the crashy o/s
