Switzerland - anyone lived and/or worked there? Advice...

I'm thinking about applying for a (dream) job in fribourg in Switzerland. Can anyone provide any advice about working and living in Switzerland? Particularly stuff that might help an English person who is crap at French feel more at home, I.e. English tv and radio!

Lake Geneva looks very nice for ribbing but I don't suppose there are any members on here from around there.

Have famlly that live in Lausanne, nice place to live. Not great for kids though the Swiss don't really do kids entertainment.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies. Lausanne is very nice. I passed through it on the train from fribourg to Geneva, amazing views of the lake and the mountains on the other side.

Maybe I'll pm Mr Harvey.

Cheers,
Tim

is that because the kids are expected to entertain themselves (possibly using the countryside around) rather than being spoon-fed some sort of mass produced fake-entertainment?

tim,

Just seen this.
Feel free to PM me all the questions you like adn I'll answer what I can, but I'm in a very German part in Basel, so not sure about the French aspect.

On the TV front, you can get cablecom, with all the terrestrial channels, many of the free uk digi channels, for about 35 CHF a month + film four for instance

it's not cheap by any means

check out www.englishforum.ch for loads of info as well

exchange rate is not too great for moving money over here at the moment, but fab for sending your hard earned savings back to UK

If you might want a boat here at some point, get your license in UK (which you would need, I don't know), and swap it for a swiss one in the first 12 months, just like with your car license. It's expensive to get a swiss boating license I believe.
