Rowing boat wanted for Great River Race - can you help?

I've volunteered to enter the Great River Race in September as part of a team raising money for the The River Thames Boat Project.

One minor hurdle that we need to overcome is the loan of a suitable boat. Does anyone here have access to anything that we could borrow? We need a rowing boat, ideally big enough for 8-9 people although something smaller might be OK.

Any traditional boat, or traditional-style replica, powered by a minimum of four oars, or paddles, can enter. Sliding seats and riggers are not allowed. In addition to the rowers or paddlers, each boat must carry a cox and a separate passenger. Even an ASC would do at a pinch if we've got anyone with good sea cadet connection!

If you can help, please let me know. If anyone feels like joining the team, there may be places available too.

Thanks!
John

Great River Race

Hi John, good luck with your search, I tried last year to find an 8 - 10 man boat but failed so this year I'm just entering a four oared, (for cancer research www.justgiving.com/crewcwrw).
A Bantry Bay Gig would be ideal for you, if you can get one.
See you on the start line.

A couple of the Islands gig teams did the race last year. You could try various pilot gig associations. They are usually 6 oared although some of the older ones can take 8.

A very brave man!!

I wish you lots of luck and that you can find a boat. Try some of the Sea Cadets as they often have spare rowing boats.

A tow can be arranged for a small fee!!

We still need more safety boats for the event so if you want to volunteer your boat and time email me : chris@northernexposurerescue.org.uk

Thanks,

Chris

Unfortunately I've had to drop out, so won't be needing a boat. Maybe next year . . .
