Raft on the Thames

Hello, this is strictly not a RIB related question but I was wondering if anybody could tell me the rules and regulations for taking a home made raft on the river Thames? Do you need a licence? Do you need insurance? If I do it seems very difficult to get one as it's not a boat but a home made raft made of pallets and plastic barrels. Also am I allowed to put a small outboard motor on it or not? Many thanks

Hi welcome to the forum.

You effectively have a home-made powered boat and even if it wasn't all craft have to be licensed. Insurance is needed and should be easy to obtain.

Where are you thinking of using your raft? Just around Henley or further down the Thames?
