Radio

I'm looking for a radio for a friend who likes to listen to the Lifeboat comms, he is an enderly getleman who's old radio is broken and has asked me to get him a new one, except I have no idea what to buy. Any imput would be appreciated.

If you go down the Marine VHF route, you need one with channel 0 programmed in. You need either a tame dealer or someone savvy enough with the correct software & cable.
The easiest way would be a programmable scanner that can be set to scan the channel 0 frequency.
Caveat, although not illegal to listen in, it may be an offence if you interfere with or disseminate anything you hear.

Strange first post on ribnet……..

As above a scanner might be better than a marine vhf at least you can transit by accident

Try a ham radio group Cleddau Amateur Radio Society – Amateur Radio in Pembrokeshire

Better off buying a scanner. Any cheap thing which covers the marine band will work. Channel zero is 156.000 MHz
