Politics of ribbing?

Firstly, I don't want this to turn into an anti-government rant so reasoned discussion only please (Codprawn et al take note-we know how much everyone hates the current government ).

I think it's becoming noticeably harder to distance ourselves from the political aspects of owning a boat and the activities that go along with it (fishing, fuel, beer etc) as more and more we're being intruded on in what was once a fairly politics free activity.

What do people think?

You are definitely correct - even JK seems to have stopped censoring our posts!!!

Sadly - wether people like it or not - politics has a massive influence on all our daily lives!!!

I think we seem to have the same problem here in Ireland, we all hate the Gov. but oddly, a whole bunch of us sneak out each election and vote for them - we're cracked we are! Perhaps we're worried that the wrong lizard will get elected (sorry, Douglas).

Personally, I just buy the fuel, spend whatever (small) change I have on (increasingly nastier) beer and then drink it, letting someone else more qualified than me fret about the government..... works for me.

I couldn't agree more. Its getting more and more expensive to: drink, drive (not at the same time) and boat - three of my favourite activities! Fuel is my biggest worry; its costing me a fortune now to do my day to day jobs. So much so I've just bought a small van to drive around in. I reckon, even with the insurance, tax etc its going to be cheaper than driving the Disco around every day.

What is ironic about these new taxes is that the companies it will hurt most are the 3 who actually still build cars in Britain - Jaguar - Aston Martin and Land Rover. Most companies also have smaller cars in their line up but these don't.

Land Rover's sales are already down 33% in the UK - that is a massive amount - meanwhile our Police still drive around in Mercedes - BMWs and Lexus 4x4s........

Ah well - it's only British jobs at stake!!!

Up here they're driving new Discos. With no frontal markings and low profile top lights. The ones I've seen are silver grey in colour. You've gotta be sharp to notice them in the rear view mirror.
