Ooops - Upper Ferry.

Wonder what happened here?

Just spent a few days staying in Dartmouth, and woke up New Years day to the Upper Ferry beached on its slipway.

Perhaps Mr Tilley or one of the other locals can shed some light.
The wind was quite strong the previous evening.

Perhaps it was just 'parked up' whilst not being used!!

All looks a bit suspicious to me. Why is David Manning standing on the ferry?

Is that thing a sidewheeler? I am looking at the projection off the port side below the pilothouse..

Yes. It runs on fixed cables across the river, but is driven by paddlewheels.

The lower ferry is even better. It's "a floating platform pushed and pulled by tugs" and looks like it hasn't changed in 100 years! It's quite an education watchning the tug drivers manouver the ferry.
