Still wonder why they get replaced if they are good for another few years service in a fairly modern country like Iceland.

I can understand poorer/3rd world countries buying worn out but useable equipment - if they are worn out...

Is this (another) unnecessary waste of £ from the funds?

Um, Hello! Iceland, check 'em here, don't see the UK

And, they're Simply Genious when it comes to practical solutions. If there's a clever, easy way to do something, they'll do it. It's a health and safety officer's nightmare, but they seem to employ common sense and get the job done over there. I think it's 'cos they're a very multiskilled nation and thus tend to have a fairly holistic approach to problem solving. They'll have work to do to the boats, but a few lads will sort it some weekend and they'll be on the water by Monday.

The boats will have been used on station or in the reserve fleet for 10-12 years, after that boats that were at a station may then be placed into the reserve fleet, after their useful life they are then sold on.
The boats in the picture are 21's not 75's, they are currently no 21's in service.

I think its about having the best kit for the job, given the choice would you want an old RIB that was designed for the job or a new update RIB that was also designed for the job?

I think they have just been replaced with better suited boats - nothing wrong with them but the bigger 85's give more 'useablity' for various stations ........ (I think)

Better sold off now while theyhave more ££££ value than when they are like a 1980 sr4......used and really really abused.

Think Iceland bought our old Arun class ,ex Humber lifeboat originally then she went to Ballyglass, and Tobormory for her last few years before going out of service and Iceland getting her ,,around 1998 ,she had been in service with the RNLI since 1977 approx 21 years ,she is now back in the uk in private ownership ,,one reason why a lot of perfectly good but older boats are sold out of service by the RNLI is that the institution has a charter of some sort that says they will provide crews with the best and most updated boats and equipment that is availble at that time ,,,as a matter of intrest the only rnli boats not sold out of service for afloat use ,was the oakley double enders around 15/ 20 years ago ,they were all scrapped apart from half a dozen that were only sold for out of water display only,,,there,s one in a school playground , ,,as they were fitted with a complex sytem of galanised steel selfrighting ballast tanks/valves and pipework that could only be gained access by a near compleat stripdown and replanking of the hull, a skilled and expensive task ,,so it was decided that none were to be used afloat ,,as the rnli could not rely on a private buyer going through this maintainence program it would deem the boat unseaworthy ,,and then look bad on the RNLI if an accident happened .,,,,as the saying goes , the best kept boats in the world,

The other thing to consider is what would the rest of the world use as Lifeboats if the RNLI never sold its old ones on!
The RNLI offers all of its disposals to other rescue organisations before it goes on public sale.

Simple. The RNLI has an amazing universal appeal that ensures that it is enormously well funded and can afford to have the very best kit all the time.

As Chewy says, this has a significant knock-on effect across the world!

Consoles are completely different to.
I prefer the 21's a lot drier ride than the 75's!

Know what you mean about the SR's. When I painted the deck on mine it gave a really good finish, a friend came round thought I'd bought a brand new hull to fit out.
