Master Code Vessel 200gt Unlimited area

Hello all. I am currently studying to sit my Master 200gt oral next month. I stumbled across this forum while searching for some tips/advice/past questions.

I am looking for any advice from anybody that been through it. Areas to concentrate on etc. I have seen a couple of peoples past questions on here and I was wondering if there is anybody else who remembers their questions.

My background is as a Deck officer OOW unlimited (2nd mate). I work as 2nd mate on a general cargo coaster converted to deliver fish feed to salmon farms. The company i work for also has a fleet of workboats which I occasionally work on, hence why i am sitting the Master 200gt.

I have my Oral booked at the Glasgow MCA office.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Sam

Hi Sam,

Do you work for Marine Harvest? One of their local divers here has just done his and is skippering the latest work boat. He might be prepared to have a chat? I can make a call if it helps...

Hi Will,

Not directly. I work for Fergusons (They have the contract to deliver feed to MH on the West Coast).

Ah nice one! That would be much appreciated. They have some cracking workboats in their fleet!

Hi Sam,

Can I ask how you went about getting the NoE for the master 200gt? I am in a similar situation where I have my OOW Unlimited and the company I currently work for has a fleet of workboats.
I’ve looked for information regarding OOW Unlimited to Master 200gt in the past but everyone seems to say it can’t be done as it is not a recognised progressing route.

Hope all goes well with the prep and exam.

Is that from a nice or a structural perspective?

Hello Ali,

I can definitely confirm there is a route from OOW Unlimited. The MCA want you to do at least 3 months time on workboats. Sea time from bigger vessels doesn't count. The evidence of your sea time doesn't have to be in the form of testimonials as in Merchant Navy tickets. Instead, they just want a letter from your company confirming that you have the workboat sea time.

The application is MSF 4343 which is actually for Yacht tickets but has a section for the Master 200gt Code vessels.

Hope that helps.
