You could try

http://www.lapworthautos.com/

A bloke on here bought through them - was very pleased with their service - they are imported back into this country but with none of the usual problems.

Any reason why? I love autos with a nice big V8 petrol but I have never really found they suit diesels that well - either they are slow OR they chip them so they are not but then the fuel economy suffers.

Never having driven a Freelander auto though I can't really comment - just curious!!!

Peter,

If ya going to give them a call also say you know our lass, Keran. She does the group training for the parent company Pendragon plc. If ya coming over for a look let us know we are only up the road could meet for a beer.

Martin

I had a 2001 Freelander 1.8 S from new, it was useless for towing the Rib, blew the clutch at 40,000 no low gear ratio

Get the TD4 the 1.8 was well under powered.

IIRC Andre also found that he had problems - don't know which model.

Wayne's is OK of course!

Of course - I forgot - cars like this tend not to have a low ratio transfer box - hence the advantage of an auto!!!

The TD4 is a good engine though.

Good grief, Codders I thought you were the font of all knowledge of everything LR?!

From my limited experience..... 1.8 K series petrol, cracking engine in a car, absolutely useless in a Freeloader. I can recall driving a pool car at LR back in 2000/1 which was gutless as hell. The other amusing trait is that the rear window kept lowering down by itself because the microswitch that told the car that the hard-top was present was a bit dicky. In true British engineering style I jammed a folded up business card twixt switch and hardtop to solve the problem. For all I know its still there.......

TD4 good engine. Not driven one with the auto gearbox so cant comment. Any LR dealer who only will offer list price is barking. Find another more hungry from the recommendations already posted.

Good alternatives would be Nissan X trail or Ford Maverick. Rav4 and Honda CR-V a bit girly. Freeloader allegedly the best built LR prior to new Range Rover & LR3. But still a LR with all that entails.......

(cue Gavin)

Dare I say I don't exactly consider the Freelander a Land Rover???

Having said that - for what it is- it's not too bad - remember it's nearer to the Honda CRV - RAV4 type market.
