An Estate several miles from me had some escape about 10yrs ago, they have pretty much taken hold of the surrounding area and this is the first time they have spread into us, it's come about 5 miles over the hills to get here.

I think we are going to be fighting a losing battle keeping them from establishing themselves but I've got feed hoppers in each glen to try and stop them before they get too deep into the estate.

We did have some a few years ago causing havoc on the playing fields at Catterick Garrison but I presume they were shot as there's been no more news. Elusive buggers for an animal that size. I was lucky to get all 10 escapees the next day after they were released before they'd got established.
They seem to walk through non electric fences at the drop of a hat. Still nice to bag one for the larder.

We have just spent £10k on a deer fence and this fellow had been doing his best to wreck it, if it wasn't for our fences I'd be tempted to let them breed and shoot them commercially but needs must.

What do you spend on deer fence up there. I've just paid £7-50 + vat per metre here?
With normal pig net they just seem to put their snout under & keep walking, especially the high tensile stuff !

That's a run of the mill price, we pay 50p-£1/m more than that because we have to do the laying out by chopper as the terrain is no use for any type of ATV.
