How Much Overhang

I need to transport some 8metre channels they are light enough to go on my roof bars but what is the legal overhang limit (front and back) car length about 4.5m so knocking for 6 feet either end!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have seen plenty of lorries carrying stuff like this - also people with ladders - make sure they are properly secured and most important - tie red rags or similar around the ends so people can see them. Even better cover the back end with a prop bag!!!

One good bit of advice,If the channel is flexable the wind will curl it up so if posible tie front down to car.Have you ever noticed someone taking bed matress on roof 50 mph totally folded in half

how about this ? If you look closely you can see the CN Tower in the background . Now that is a large structure !
