Helicopter ditches

BBC News - Helicopter carrying 18 ditches near Shetland

Ferry on route plus two lifeboats at 7.00pm. Third incident in a relatively short period. Hopefully everyone okay.

Looking like all but three recovered OK so far. It's tough country up there, Resources are lighter on the ground than you'd like and it's a cold/big ocean. I've sat outside the airport getting prepped to go into Iceland, watching Bristow birds come and go. Wouldn't have fancied a dip. Hope the missing are just that...

Looks like all recent accidents involving Puma helicopters have been due to gearbox failure, if this latest one is the case, then surely all of these Puma helicopters will now have to be grounded indefinitely.

Condolences to the families involved.

Big plus 1 to that Steve. Certainly looks like that one of the survivors said they dropped like a stone.
