Google Earth - IOW RIB spotting

The Isle of Wight has just been updated on Google Earth. My mate has worked out (he thinks) that the pics are taken on Saturday 24th July 2004. He did this by looking at tents in friends houses, cars on drives, the state of deforestation and, I quote:

"the county show at northwood is on, that was the 24th to the 25th. i did a search for the 24th july in google and found out that 18th madenhead scouts started their summer camp at corf, putting up thier tents on the 24th, a look at corf shows some people erecting their tents. i cant say it IS them exactly, but its a high probability"

Anyway, if you look at Priory bay, Cowes town quay (redjet terminal) and Yarmouth harbour, you can see loads of RIBs. Can anyone local spot their boats?! If so, post a screen grab!

Didn't think the detail was good enough to tell a RIB from a normal boat - UNTIL I saw this!!!

50 - 45.53N

1 - 17.51W

Shows what you mean!!!

I didn't notice that Google earth used different data to Google maps until looking at this.

Looks like Plymouth has also had more detail added

You should all think yourselves lucky to have any hi-res coverage at all - Plymouth is as far towards my neck of the woods it goes.

Here is where my boat is stored - can just about make out the shape of the village

This is well worth a look - all sorts of interesting things - planes captured in flight etc.

This is great fun - be carefull though - some of the high res overlays are actually poorer than the newest ones - just try before and afters!!!
