Dawlish Air Show

If anyone is in the area of Dawlish on Saturday, the air show is well worth experiencing - especially from the water!

Another great line-up this year... http://dawlishairshow.co.uk/newindex/display-aircraft/

I'd been trying to find out when the two Lancasters would be flying. Looks from that like it might be around 5pm.

Unfortunately I'm required in Sidmouth as safety boat cover all day, but we did get to see the BBMF Lancaster and the Vulcan flying across last year. Hopefully I'll see something this year.

We normally get to see the Red Arrows somewhere each summer but the dates haven't worked out for us so far. We're heading down to Devon tomorrow so we might be up for an excursion to Dawlish

Any insider tips for good spots to watch from? How demented will the traffic be? Is it worth taking the SIB?

Sorry I've only just got back in from a long day out.

As you suspect, the traffic will be hideous and due to this I always see the show by boat. But, friends of mine have recommended a couple of places either side of Dawlish, that have a great viewpoints and good facilities too. On the Dawlish Warren side, there is http://www.langstone-hotel.co.uk which is a nice hotel and a really lovely spot. On the Teignmouth side there is http://www.thesmugglersinn.net which is high up on the hill and well known for its real ale selection. :-)

Let me know If you take the boat route and I'll do whatever I can to assist you. I'll be rafting up with several ribs, hard boats and sailers, so we should have a reasonable amount of facilities (food, drink and loo's) available between us. There's always room for more.

I must say that seeing the Typhoon and Vulcan was the highlight for me at last years show. Considering it's quite a small town, I don't know how they do it. But I'm very glad they do!

Watched the Show from Dawlish in the end...with perfect weather...
The whole event was Magic! Some great iconic aircraft and the Red Arrows doing what only they can!
The Highlight for me was seeing(and hearing!) the Last Pair of Airworthy Lancaster's (one flown over from Canada) Flying alongside a Spitfire and Hurricane!..with the two Fighters doing mock Dog fight..and Victory Rolls!!
Tremendous!
Think you Dan for the Heads up!
By the way...The traffic was "OK"on the back road to Chudliegh /M5

Glad you enjoyed it too. We had a great day out on the water - there was a real party atmosphere. Looking forward to next year already.

That's an amazing photo C2! Here's a couple from my not quite so birdseye view.

I got to see them from from Sidmouth . They flew past a mile or two inland on their way to Dawlish. We heard them flying back as well, but only got a small glimpse from five or more miles away. The noise of ten Merlins really carries.

The Canberra was a pleasant surprise when that flew over on its way home a little earlier. I'd never seen one in the air before, so that was a nice bonus.

And then Exmouth's Shannon-class arrived for a display.
