I actually spoke to Ari Vatanen some years ago about that near miss. Apart from rolling a 205 T16 into a ball of scrap in Argentina, he reckons he will remember every detail for the rest of his life. As for Terry Harriman (his nav) he forgot about it after a bottle of Irelands finest malt!!!!

Those were the good old days of sideways RS1800's

ist SSR i did, i lost the back end on a crest at well over a ton, span twice with the car i had just overtaken going past us as we span, ending up not in the woods as i had feared but as if i had parked up on the verge, about 200m from the crest. I turned the key, and kept on going!

Lucky.
