Apprenticeship

Hi guys and girls,

My younger brother, a keen ribber and laser sailor is leaving school in the summer and is struggling to find a marine engineering apprenticeship on the south coast. Does anybody know of anywhere that regularly takes people? We tried Scorpian but unsurprisingly they don't do apprenticeships! Any help would be very much appreciated!

Thanks

Alex

Try Halmatic in Pompy (they make those tank boat...the pacific 22 ) and the RNLI in Poole. Also try Sunseeker in Poole....go to their website and look under recruitment.

Can you tell I've thought about this quite a lot myself?!

Cheers

Tim

What about an HND at SIHE? It's quite a while ago, but when I looked (10 years ago admittedly) they had quite a few courses relevant to different areas of the marine industry.

I did 2yrs a BEng in Yacht and powercraft design there in 1996 which was very good, although it was 75% yachts and 25% powerboats. They have good links with the boat building companies in the uk and europe, and its full of crumpet

SIHE? Whats that then? Is that the Southampton Institute of Higher Education or something?

Thought about doing an MSC in high speed craft design here at soton uni but I can't cope with more education at the moment. Am presently doing Mechanical Engineering, but should have really done ship science!

Tim
