Getting back to OP ,i have found ebay 99p start ussually finds the current true value ,but title description and honesty make a massive difference ,and holding your nerve !

Had a bit of a downsize during the last couple of years as I gave up game shooting. Hence all my cartridge bags, gunslips even breeks & shooting jackets went on ebay . Made some surprisingly high prices given the age of some of the leather gear (30+ years).
I'll be keeping the bulk of my workshop equipment until retirement requires a lot less room but it'll all be going on ebay with no reserve .
The management occasionally looks in the mancave with a mild look of concern so I'm gently moving stuff but it's a challenge as I'm sure I'll need a whitworth or UNF nut and bolt one day....

That’s where the recently inherited are left with a problem. “Box of random tools” is not going to attract the same attention as a proper description - but if your offspring have neither the knowledge nor the time to do that then they’ll go cheap likely to someone who buys stuff then sells it on for profit - which is not necessarily bad.
