Its all a bit of a joke, the areas in the Oban area classed as "rough" are North Connel, Soroba and Dunbeg. These are classed as Apache country locally. (ie you don't stop when driving through and be ready to circle the wagons if attacked)
The funny part is that I am originally from Glasgow, used to live near Easterhouse and in Glasgow folk would be fighting to get into areas like Soroba as a "nice" Area!
There may be some truth in the Dunbeg one though
